Me quedé sorprendida con Johannesburgo, tenía presente que en Sudáfrica pasaban cosas, pero no sabía que tantas.  Cuando tocamos tierra, nos encontramos con un aeropuerto super moderno y de alto tránsito, rápidamente nos trepamos al Gautrain y quedé sorprendida con una estación ferroviaria a nivel Yamanote Line en Japón (click aquí si querés ver más de Japón), limpia, silenciosa y tecnológica.

 Johannesburg was a complete surprise for me, I was aware that things were happening in South Africa, but I did not know the real meaning of this. The minute we landed, we found a super modern and high traffic airport, we hopped into the Gautrain and was surprised with a train station very similar to  Yamanote Line in Japan (click here if you want to see more of Japan), clean, quiet and technological .

Nos alojamos en el Hotel Boutique Fairlawns que fue absolutamente increíble, una casa renovada que perteneció al empresario Oppenheimer, y que en 1997 fue convertida en un hotel de estilo, con una decoración muy particular. La Villa Moji con su piscina privada y sus gigantescas fotografías, el jardín chino del spa, el comedor empapelado con hojas de bambú, la colección de arte nativo africano, la pared de espejos y podría seguir y seguir enumerando cosas que me fascinaron en mi estancia en ese hotel. Me sentí una princesa desde el primer día que llegué, gracias al staff que antes de que abriera la boca, ya sabían lo que iba a decir ¿tan obvia soy?¿ o ellos son muy buenos?

We stayed at the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel which was absolutely amazing, a renovated house that belonged to the businessman Oppenheimer, and which in 1997 was converted into a hotel of style, with a very particular decoration. The Moji Villa with its private pool and its gigantic photographs, the Chinese spa garden, bamboo leaf-papered dining room, the native African art collection, the wall of mirrors and I could go on and on, keep listing things that fascinated me in my stay in that hotel. I felt like a princess from the first day I arrived, thanks to the staff, that before I opened my mouth, they already knew what I was going to say, how obvious am I, or are they very good?

El brunch lo comimos en Melville, un barrio un poco hipster, donde a la noche hay varios bares, incluído un "speakeasy", y en una esquina enmarcada en verde agua se encuentra Pablo Eggs Go Bar, donde nos estaba esperando craig, no solo para recomendarnos los mejores platos, sino para pasarnos unos buenos tips de local para nuestra estadía. Distraídamente probamos los "Dr Vee´s master tonic", que son shots de vegetales entre picantes y descongestionantes,  de una cachetada nos dijeron "Hello Joburg", y luego pasamos a los mejores huevos ever llamados "eggs´n soldiers"!

We had  brunch in Melville, a neighborhood a little hipster, where at night there are several bars, including a "speakeasy", and in the corner, framed in green water color is Pablo Eggs Go Bar, where Craig was expecting us to recommend the best dishes, and to give us some good local tips for our stay in the city. Absently we tried the "Dr Vee's master tonic", which are vegetable shots between spicy and decongestant, like slap in the face, with the strength of the shots,  we said for the first time "Hello Joburg", and then we passed to the best eggs ever called "eggs'n soldiers"!

A la tarde tomamos un uber y nos dirigimos al barrio artista de Maboneng, galerías de arte, museos, land art, coolhunting pueblan sus calles. Se siente una vibra de nuevas generaciones, arte que prolifera, espacios de diseño y varios lugarcitos para simplemente almorzar o tomarse una cerveza. 

In the afternoon we took an Uber and headed to the artist's neighborhood of Maboneng, art galleries, museums, land art, coolhunting populate their streets. You feel a vibe of new generations, art that proliferates, spaces of design and several places to simply have lunch or have a beer.

Otro must de una de las capitales de Sudáfrica es el museo del Apartheid, un lugar con una arquitectura modern y minimalista, que cuenta la historia de un país, y la de Nelson Mandela, uno de sus grandes ciudadanos. No se puede pasar por este museo sin sentirse conmovido, y a su vez explica muchas cosas que se viven al día de hoy en las calles de la ciudad.

Another must in one of South Africa's capitals is the Apartheid Museum, a place with modern minimalist architecture that tells the story of a country, and of Nelson Mandela, one of his great citizens. You can not go through this museum without feeling moved, as well explains many things that are lived today in the streets of the city

Otra cosa interesante para hacer en esta ciudad es visitar el barrio de Soweto, donde nació Mandela, un barrio muy humilde en donde hoy en día viven más de diez millones de habitantes, y es prácticamente una ciudad aparte.

Another interesting thing to do in this city is to visit the district of Soweto, where Mandela was born, a very humble neighborhood where nowadays live more than ten million inhabitants, and is practically a city apart.

El último día hicimos un poco de shopping, ya que es una ciudad con muy buenos precios comparado con países como Uruguay, Argentina, Brasil o Chile y marcas de primerísimo nivel, con nada que envidiarle a cualquier ciudad europea. Por un lado tenés el centro comercial de Mandela Square y por otro Melrose Arch que además de tener tiendas tiene muy buenos restaurantes. A la noche y como despedida fuimos a cenar al restaurant de Jamie Oliver y nos llevamos un "take away" de patisserie de Paul, que está justo en la esquina.

The last day we did a little shopping, as it is a city with very good prices compared to countries like Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil or Chile and brands of first level, with nothing to envy to any European city. On one side you have the commercial center of Mandela Square and on the other Melrose Arch that besides having shops has very good restaurants. At night and as a farewell we went to dinner at Jamie Oliver's restaurant and we took a patisserie take away from Paul, which is right around the corner.

No se pierdan de conocer esta ciudad, que me impresionó por su tamaño y riqueza cultural, con una energía muy particular, y una vorágine desenfrenada. En JB pasan muchas cosas, y una vez que nos fuimos adentrando en el continente, nos dimos cuenta de lo despegada que está del resto en algunos aspectos. Puerto de entrada para muchos, no se pierdan de disfrutar un poco de este "lifestyle" tan particular.

Do not miss to visit this city, which impressed me by its size and cultural richness, with a very particular energy, and an unbridled vortex. In JB happens many things, and once we went into the  african continent, we realized how detached is from the rest of the cities in many aspects. Port of entry for many southerns, do not miss to enjoy a bit of this particular lifestyle.
